About

The primary goal of this site is to be a helpful resource for Kentucky writers and fans of Kentucky writing. As a result, the content is not as important as the relationships.

What Does That Mean?

The original goal of the internet was to connect people. The advent of social media has, instead, siloed us into algorithmically curated personal storefronts. We aim to fix that.

This is the bulletin board at the coffee shop, the stack of flyers set on a bar top, the guy on the street yelling for you to see the poetry slam in someone’s apartment. This is about creating human connections using the internet as it was intended, to create relationships between different people, content, and ideas.

So if the site looks sparse, that’s because it’s new (founded the third week of January, 2025) and the focus is on the backend to add Organizations, Publications, Events, People, etc. and string along connections. After the content is collected, it will be styled to look more appealing.

In the mean time, this site is currently run by one person who works a full-time job, writes on his own time (though not as much as he’d like to admit), and has a family he’d (honestly) rather be spending time with. So if you don’t see something, say something. We don’t know everything that’s out there (and have ADHD so forget most of what we DO know, anyway.)

Questions & Answers

These are not yet “frequently asked,” but worth responding to anyway.

What do you decide to post here?

Honestly, I want this to be as comprehensive a list as possible. The only thing I flat-out refuse to post is anything promoting hatred of people based on immutable traits or harmless beliefs.

Does that include Publications?

If you want your publication posted here, I’ll review it. I also don’t want to share anything that feels “empty,” such as AI-written marketing blogs. But if you’re curious, it can’t hurt to reach out and ask.

Is this site politically motivated?

In the sense that I want to promote legislation that benefits writers, and I am making this site, then yes.

In the same vein, I am a politically progressive person and this site is made under the purview of Kentucky Writing Advocates, which is a group who believes supporting storytelling and the literary arts will inherently lead to more open-minded, progressive people.

So, yeah: I guess it is.

So you discriminate against opposing political beliefs?

No, I didn’t say that at all.

In fact, I invite people with opposing beliefs – especially conservative ones – to enjoy Kentucky Writing as much as they can. As long as those beliefs don’t promote hatred of marginalized groups, I am fine platforming those people as much as anyone else.

That being said, I’m also a student of far-right underground movements, especially online. I understand how disingenuous posturing is used by anonymous message boards and social media to drain the energy from progressive movements. So if I am engaged in what I see as “bad faith,” I will simply ignore the engagement. I have no interest in entertaining trolls.

If you’re really unbiased, then why doesn’t your site list [INSERT GROUP/EVENT/PUBLICATION HERE]?

I probably haven’t heard of them.

If you’d like to see a group, event, or publication on this site, and it relates (even tangentially) to Kentucky writing, please send a message here.

You didn’t answer my question; why are you okay being so biased?

Everyone is biased. To say you aren’t is either ignorant or dishonest. So what’s wrong with being biased?

I knew it! You’re biased!

Look at me! Respond to me!

You’re dishonest: you contradict yourself and everything you say. I bet you haven’t even read Hunter S Thompson’s personal diaries. You don’t know anything about Kentucky Writing. WHY WON’T YOU LOOK AT ME!

What’s that mean?
